Frequently asked questions

Is my text uploaded to a server or stored anywhere?

No. The counting runs entirely in your browser with JavaScript, so your text never leaves your device. You can even use the tool offline once the page has loaded.

Can I count words in a PDF or Word document?

The tool counts whatever text you paste or type into the box. Open your PDF or Word file, select all, copy, and paste it in — formatting is ignored and only the words are counted.

How is reading time calculated?

It assumes an average reading speed of 200 words per minute. Texts under a minute are shown in seconds; longer texts are shown in minutes with one decimal place.

What is keyword density, and how should I use it?

The table shows your five most frequent meaningful words (common words like "the" and "and" are filtered out) and each word's share of your total word count. It's a quick way to check whether you're overusing a term in an article, essay, or product page.

What is a good word count for a blog post?

There is no magic number — the right length is whatever fully answers the reader's question. As a rough guide, in-depth guides tend to run 1,000–2,500 words, but a tight 600-word post that nails the topic beats a padded 3,000-word one.

What is the Flesch Reading Ease score?

It is a 0–100 score for how easy your text is to read: 90–100 is very easy, 60–70 is standard plain English, and below 30 is very difficult. It is computed from your average sentence length and average syllables per word. For general audiences, aim for 60 or higher — shorten long sentences and swap heavy words for simpler ones to raise it.
