Strikethrough text generator — FAQ
What is a strikethrough text generator?
It crosses out your text using Unicode combining characters — invisible marks that attach to the letter before them and draw a line through it. Because the line becomes part of the text itself, it survives copy-paste into apps that strip normal formatting.
How do I copy and paste the crossed-out text?
Type your text above, tap Copy on the style you like (or tap the styled text), then paste it like normal text into your bio, caption, chat or username field.
Where can I use strikethrough text?
Anywhere that accepts Unicode text: Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, X, WhatsApp, Discord, YouTube comments, gaming usernames and documents. If a style looks broken somewhere, try the classic long strikethrough — it has the widest support.
Why can’t I just cross out text in Instagram or Discord?
Most apps offer no strikethrough formatting of their own — their text fields strip or ignore styling. This generator bakes the line into the characters themselves, so the effect works where no formatting button exists. (Inside Discord chat you can also use ~~text~~ — see our Discord strikethrough guide.)
Is this strikethrough generator free? Do I need to sign up?
Yes — completely free, no sign-up, no limits. Generate and copy as much crossed-out text as you want.
Does my text get uploaded anywhere?
No. All conversion happens locally in your browser — nothing you type is ever sent to a server.
How do I strikethrough text in Discord?
In a Discord message, wrap your text in double tildes: ~~like this~~. That only works inside messages — Discord nicknames, channel names and bios ignore markdown, so for those use a Unicode style above instead (the Discord Markdown card copies the ~~text~~ wrapper for you). See our step-by-step Discord strikethrough guide.
How do I strikethrough text in WhatsApp?
WhatsApp uses a single tilde on each side: ~like this~. If you need a cross-out in a bio, status or username — where WhatsApp formatting does not apply — use the Unicode long strikethrough style above instead.
How do I strikethrough text in Gmail, Google Docs or Word?
Google Docs has it built in: Format > Text > Strikethrough. In Word, use the Strikethrough button (abc with a line through it) on the Home tab. Gmail has no built-in strikethrough button, so paste Unicode crossed-out text from this tool into your email instead.
Why does my strikethrough text look broken or show boxes in some apps?
Some fonts and older apps do not draw every combining mark. If a style looks broken, switch to the classic long strikethrough — it has the widest support — and keep styled bios short, because each letter carries an extra invisible character that counts toward length limits.
How do I cross out text?
It depends where the text will live. For anywhere — bios, captions, usernames, chats — type it in the generator above and copy the crossed-out style; the line is baked into the characters, so it pastes anywhere. Inside a document, use the built-in button instead: Word has a Strikethrough button on the Home tab, Google Docs has Format > Text > Strikethrough, Discord chat uses ~~text~~, and WhatsApp uses ~text~. Gmail has no built-in strikethrough button, so paste Unicode crossed-out text from this tool into your email.
Tip: combining-character text counts extra characters against strict limits (usernames, tweets) — keep styled bios short.
